Did You Know? Over 80,000 people in Wales receive social care support each year.

Behind every one of those numbers is a person, a family, and a story, and for many, accessing the right support when they need it most can still be incredibly challenging.
Across Wales, social care continues to face unprecedented challenges.
Local authorities are working hard, but the system is under strain:
- Long waits for assessments remain a major issue with 24% of older people waiting more than 30 days and some waiting far longer. One report recorded an extreme wait of 639 days for support to be put in place
- Complex needs are increasing as the population ages, placing extra demand on services and requiring more specialised support.
- Communication gaps between councils, families, hospitals, and social care services often leave people without clear information at the time they need it most.
- Across Wales, workforce shortages, rising demand, and funding constraints continue to place significant pressure on the whole sector.
- Even with national efforts to improve consistency, there is variation between local authorities, meaning access to support can look very different depending on where you live.
These barriers mean that too many people are still waiting too long, receiving incomplete information, or struggling to navigate a system that should be supporting them.
