Our Apprenticeship Programme

Care First 24 now has a rolling apprenticeship programme. There is no better time to work as a nurse in social care, there are lots of opportunities and a wide range of experience available in the sector.

If you are interested in becoming a nurse on a 4-year degree course or a nursing associate on a 2-year degree course, then there are good reasons to choose the apprenticeship route. You can earn a wage while you learn, no student loans to pay back. You will get support from us as your employer to enable you to succeed.

We are also able to provide student placements for external students, we can offer experience in Paediatric care, Adult care and Learning Disability.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible to apply for the course you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must be employed by Care First 24 at the start of the apprenticeship and work solely for Care First 24 on a PAYE contract.
  • All mandatory training should be up to date, and you should have an excellent record in terms of attendance and performance.
  • You will need to have Maths and English qualifications (at GCSE A to C or grade 4 or above for the new qualifications) or functional skills level 2* If you have not got these qualifications you will need to complete these prior to starting the course.
  • You must be eligible for the government apprenticeship funding

What you'll be doing

Structure of the Apprenticeship

Nursing Associate Apprentices will be:

  • Contracted as an apprentice for 40 hours/week on a salary and expected to remain in employment with Care First 24 for two years post completion of the programme
  • Attend the university to undertake the educational component of the programme.
  • You will be expected to undertake additional hours of directed learning.
  • You would be required to undertake external allocated placements which will require some travel
  • You will be released for placements that form part of your contracted hours
  • You will be expected to travel to a variety of locations to work your shifts, some of which are not accessible by public transport
  • You will have 28 days holiday (including bank holidays) a year, the period of holiday will be identified by the university.
  • When you are not at university, (non-term time) we will expect you to contractually work those hours in those weeks, unless annual leave has been booked.
