Care First 24 External Trainer from Amethyst Clinical Education, Karen Fitzpatrick’s 100-mile Challenge for The Epilepsy Society
The 100-mile epilepsy challenge is a significant fundraising initiative aimed at supporting individuals with epilepsy. Participants can choose to complete the challenge in various ways, such as walking, running, cycling, swimming, or even skateboarding.
Our lovely trainer, Karen Fitzpatrick from Amethyst Clinical Education, has chosen cycling to complete the 100 miles – which is a virtual challenge where participants must complete 100 miles in less than 100 days. Here she is making a gallant effort, reaching her 30-mile target, towards the Epilepsy Society’s Challenge 100.
On the 8th January Karen has completed 25 miles into the challenge.
There are 1 in 100 people living with Epilepsy in the UK, and Care First 24 was delighted to donate in support of this fantastic cause and has no doubts that Karen will hit her 100-mile challenge.
You can also help raise awareness for the 1 in 100 people living with epilepsy every day in the UK, by donating to their JustGiving page by clicking here:

Sunday 18th January 2026 – 81 miles completed.
Karen gave us an update on the miles she covered.
“Thought I’d give you a weekly update on the miles I have covered. This week all my miles have been out in nature or on the road. Some have been wonderful and having a positive impact on how I feel in my physical health. Feel like I’m rolling back the years and gaining more donations as I peddle along. Longest journey was 16 miles I did today around Norwich, feel quite proud, legs felt like jelly lol. I’m at 81 miles now, on the home run. Thank you for your ongoing support.”
By 26th January 2026 Karen had completed the 100 mile cycle challenge!
“I can’t believe it, the 100miles is completed. I’m now at 107 miles. It’s been a journey, one worth completing. The charity donations continue until February 14th, Happy Valentine’s 😊. I’m going to keep adding the miles until then.
Thank you all for your donations, I’m happy to accept more 😊”.

Living with epilepsy can be challenging, not just for those diagnosed but also for their families and friends.
We are so proud of Karen achieving her 100-mile goal and raising vital funds for The Epilepsy Society – The UK’s only charity transforming the lives of people with epilepsy through world-leading research, advocacy and care.
