A personal journey to becoming a fully qualified nurse Kelsey Cowley, Care First 24

Nursing journeys differ depending on educational background, goals, and priorities.  Luckily the diverse field of nursing will almost certainly have a path that suits everyone.

Here Kelsey Cowley from Care First 24 describes her personal story.

Early Inspirations

As a determined and compassionate individual, my decision to pursue nursing/midwifery is deeply rooted in my personal experience in my teenage years.

As a young carer, I was responsible for looking after my great-grandmother, while still attending school, I discovered a profound passion for delivering quality care and enriching the lives of others.  This early exposure to caregiving ignited a fire within me, instilling a lifelong commitment to making a positive difference in people’s lives and ensuring they receive the best possible care.

Overcoming Challenges

Despite my young age, I have accumulated a significant amount of experience in the healthcare field over the past two years.  This rapid accumulation of experience underscores my unwavering dedication and drive to continuously better myself and excel in my chosen career path.  Over this relatively short period, I have actively pursued opportunities in healthcare, driven by my innate desire to provide compassionate support and assistance to those in need.

My experiences as a critical care nursing assistant, coupled with roles in homecare and supported living, have further solidified my dedication to patient care and reinforced the importance of empathy, respect, and dignity in every interaction.

Personal Growth and Development

In addition to my professional experiences, I have also cultivated a strong academic foundation, achieving commendable grades in relevant subjects and obtaining many certifications related to health care as seen above such as the AWARE course and my Care Certificate.  Moreover, my recent role with CareFirst24 has provided me with invaluable experience in paediatric care, further reaffirming my commitment to delivering holistic and compassionate care across all age groups.

Working with paediatric patients has reinforced the importance of patience, empathy, and effective communication in providing tailored and comprehensive care to individuals and their families.  These educational achievements, combined with my practical skills and hands-on experiences, have equipped me with the necessary tools to excel in the dynamic and demanding field of healthcare.

Continued learning and growth

As I embark on the journey to become a nurse/midwife, I am driven by a deep sense of purpose and determination to continue learning and growing as a healthcare professional.

Despite my passion for nursing/midwifery, the financial barriers associated with pursuing a university education have been a significant obstacle for me. However, this apprenticeship presents a remarkable opportunity to overcome these challenges and pursue my dream career.

Not only does it provide hands-on experience and training in the field, but it also serves as a gateway to further education and advancement in the healthcare sector.  The nursing associate apprenticeship represents an invaluable opportunity for me to expand my knowledge, refine my clinical skills, and ultimately realise my long-term goal of becoming a midwife.

Passion for patient care

With each day of training and mentorship, I am eager to build upon my experiences, contribute positively to the healthcare team, and uphold the highest standards of care and professionalism. In conclusion, my journey toward nursing is not merely a career choice but a calling deeply rooted in compassion, empathy, and a genuine desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

I am profoundly excited about the prospect of undertaking the nursing associate apprenticeship and am fully committed to embracing every opportunity for growth and development along this transformative path.
